Why Choose Mad Hatter Auto Repair for an Oil Change?

How Is an Oil Change at Mad Hatter Different?
An oil change at Mad Hatter Auto Repair gives you more than fresh oil and a new oil filter. It’s also an opportunity for us to inspect your vehicle and update its service history. Every visit includes our complimentary Digital Vehicle Inspection (DVI), which may identify concerns before they lead to an unexpected breakdown. Our technicians review what we find that day alongside your vehicle’s mileage, service history, and manufacturer’s maintenance schedule. This helps us show you what needs attention now, what can wait, and what we’ll continue monitoring at future visits.
At Mad Hatter, an oil change is part of an ongoing relationship with a full-service repair team. We keep a record of your vehicle’s maintenance history and give you clear facts. You can then make an informed decision that’s best for your car and your budget.
What’s Included in an Oil Change at Mad Hatter Auto Repair?
The process is the same at both our Omaha and Council Bluffs locations. We begin with a complete DVI, which includes photos, technician notes, and measurements. We then replace the engine oil and filter using the type, weight, and specifications recommended for your vehicle. This includes whether it requires full synthetic, synthetic blend, or conventional oil.
The oil change and inspection usually take about 30 to 40 minutes. If you approve additional testing or repairs, we’ll let you know how much more time is needed.
Your oil change and complimentary DVI include:
- Engine oil and filter replacement
- Battery and charging system evaluation
- Fluid level inspection
- Brake and tire measurements
- Suspension and steering inspection
- Belt and hose inspection
What Should You Know Before Scheduling an Oil Change?
At Mad Hatter, we help determine when your oil change is due by looking at your vehicle’s mileage, service history, earlier inspections, and manufacturer maintenance schedule.
Tell your advisor if you’ve noticed anything different, such as an oil spot, burning smell, or new engine noise. These signs may point to a leak or another concern we should check during your visit.
If the red oil-pressure light comes on, pull over when it’s safe and turn off your engine. This isn’t the same as an oil-change reminder. It can mean the engine isn’t getting the oil pressure it needs and should be checked right away.
How Does Mad Hatter Decide What to Recommend?
During each oil-change visit, we review your service history and earlier DVIs. We look at what was recommended, completed, or put off. We also check the current mileage and the manufacturer’s service schedule.
If your vehicle’s mileage or service history shows us that something may be due, we inspect or test it when its condition can be checked. If it’s still in good condition, we’ll let you know. If something is wearing sooner than expected, we will show you what we found and explain why it may need attention.
Not everything we find during a DVI needs attention right away. Your inspection will show what’s in good condition, what needs attention now or soon, and what we’ll check again during a future visit. If more testing is needed to understand a concern, we’ll explain that before recommending a repair.
Each visit adds the inspection findings to your vehicle’s history. Over time, we can compare those details to see how brake wear, tire tread, fluid condition, and other concerns change from one visit to the next. That information can help you plan ahead.
"Oil is the lifeblood of your engine. Changing it on time is one of the simplest forms of preventative maintenance and one of the best ways to provide long-term engine protection. An oil change is also an opportunity for us to inspect your vehicle, understand its history, and catch small issues before they become major repairs. That’s where the real value is."
— Zach Haver, Owner, Mad Hatter Auto Repair
What Happens If the Inspection Finds a Concern?
When a technician finds a concern, we document it clearly in your DVI and send it to you by text and email for review. Your advisor will call you or review the results with you in the lobby. We’ll explain what we found, answer your questions, and tell you whether it needs attention now, soon, or can be watched. If more testing is needed, we’ll explain why and get your approval before proceeding. We recommend a repair only when the inspection—and any needed testing—supports it.
No additional work is completed without your approval. If you decide to wait, we keep the recommendation and supporting details on file so we can check them again during a future visit. We are not here to pressure you, we’re here to give you honest answers and recommendations.
What Does This Process Look Like During a Real Visit?

A customer first brought her 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander to Mad Hatter for an oil change in April. Her DVI documented that the engine air filter was getting dirty and that her tires were ready to be rotated. Her advisor reviewed the recommendations with her, and she decided to complete only the oil change.
When she returned in July, another DVI again documented the dirty air filter and need for a tire rotation, including a clear photo of the tire measurements. It also noted a low key-fob battery and showed that many other inspected areas were still in good condition. Her advisor reviewed the updated information with her, and she again chose to complete only the oil change.
Those two visits began building a history Mad Hatter can use to follow changes in her vehicle’s condition, explain how soon a recommendation should be addressed, and help her decide what works for her vehicle and her budget.
How Does an Oil Change With a DVI Help You Plan Ahead?
While your vehicle will have its own needs, the DVI included with your Mad Hatter oil change helps you plan ahead for future maintenance. It may also identify concerns before they lead to an unexpected breakdown. As the Mitsubishi example shows, we provide photos, technician notes, measurements, and clear recommendations so you can decide with confidence what to take care of now and what to budget for a future visit.
Because those details remain on file as part of your vehicle’s service history, you don’t have to rely on your memory alone in the middle of a busy life. When you return, we’ll review that information and compare what has changed, giving you more time to plan instead of being caught off guard.
