Can I Take My Own Parts to Your Repair Shop?

I've Got the Parts, but Don't Know How to Install Them

It’s a question we get often so we felt it would be a great idea to explain why we don’t install customer supplied parts at our Mad Hatter locations. The question is then "Why not"? The answer is actually pretty simple. We take pride in the quality of our work — and that means standing behind every repair we do. One of the ways we ensure that is by offering a 3-year/ 36,000-mile warranty on both parts and labor.

As a policy, we cannot install parts you have purchased online or from local parts stores. We know it might seem convenient (or even cost-saving) to buy parts online from places like Amazon, eBay, or other third-party sellers, however, here’s some reasons why it’s not in your best interest — and why it’s not something we can accommodate:

Quality Control Matters

When you bring us your vehicle, you're trusting us to find the problem correctly and fix it the right way the first time. If we install a part we didn't source, we can't verify its quality, fit, or reliability. Parts purchased online often vary widely in quality — even when they claim to be "OEM" or "direct fit."

If a part fails, it’s your vehicle and your safety that could be at risk.

Our 3 Year/36,000 Mile Warranty

When we provide the part and the labor, you’re protected. If a part we install fails within the 3-year, 36,000-mile window, we cover the replacement and the labor at no additional cost to you.

But what if a customer-supplied part fails? We have no way to extend that same warranty — and you’d be stuck paying for another repair out of your own pocket. Our policy ensures peace of mind for you and accountability from us.

Fit and Compatibility Issues

Even if the part number looks correct online, many times parts ordered from third parties arrive incorrect, incomplete, or poorly manufactured. Installing a wrong or defective part wastes your time and ours — and could even cause additional damage to your vehicle. When we supply the part, we ensure it’s correct for your specific make, model, and repair.

Professional Reputation and Standards

As a professional car repair facility, our reputation is built on quality, reliability, and customer trust. Allowing unknown, unverified parts into our repair process would weaken those standards. We want every vehicle that leaves Mad Hatter to be something we’re proud of and that you can count on.
