What’s That Noise Under Your Car?

What We're Looking For at Mad Hatter Auto Repair

If your car has ever made a strange noise — a rattle, a hum, or something that just doesn’t sound right — you’re not alone. It’s one of the most common concerns we hear our shops in Omaha, NE, and Council Bluffs, IA.

Using the Inspection to Investigate

In this photo, you’ll see Sam, one of our Council Bluffs technicians, inspecting a vehicle’s exhaust system from underneath. This is where a lot of those “mystery noises” come from — components like the muffler, catalytic converter, and exhaust connections can loosen, wear out, or even crack over time.

He's checking for things most drivers can't see, including:

  • Loose or rusted exhaust components
  • Small leaks than can turn into bigger problems
  • Early signs of failure that could affect performance or fuel economy

What many people don’t realize is that these issues often start small. A slight rattle today can turn into a much louder (and more expensive) repair if left unchecked. That’s why we always recommend having unusual noises inspected early. Not only can it save you money, but it also helps keep your vehicle running safely and efficiently.
